Course Description:

Countries in South Asia have among the highest rates of increase of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in the world and pediatric diabetes in these countries has unique features of particular interest. Factors that contribute to pediatric challenges include normal growth and development, psychological characteristics, health status, family dynamics (including socioeconomic status and cultural considerations), and care outside of the home, such as in the school setting. These components increase the intricacy of caring for pediatric patients in general, and the addition of a chronic condition often further increases the complexity. You will learn about the role of genetics and other factors in the pathogenesis of diabetes in children. The course will also cover various clinical presentations of type-1 and type-2 diabetes in children. In addition, the course will deal with evidence-based management of diabetes and its complications in the pediatric age group. The course will also provide the knowledge and skills required to provide diabetes self-management education to children and their parents or caregivers.
