Course Description:
There are more than 1000 district hospitals. Only a small proportion (<10%) of all these hospitals, however, will boast properly equipped or staffed intensive care units (ICUs). These hospitals thus contribute only a small proportion of the available ICU facilities. As in most other developing nations, critical care medicine as a specialty has developed very slowly and only recently in India. Some of the reports suggested that by 2020, there will likely be a 35% shortage in critical care doctors in India. The course “Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine” is designed to
address this severe absence of skilled professionals to manage intensive care units. It will impart the knowledge and skills needed to provide critical care to patients admitted in the ICU.
Experience and knowledge gained from this program will help improve the care delivered not only in the ICU but also to critically ill patients in other areas such as the emergency room, postoperative care unit and in disaster settings. The course helps gain in-depth knowledge about the general approach to ICU, basics approach to critical care, special techniques to handle specific critical illness and emergencies.
